Ha Nguyen - Process Engineer

Before starting University, I had strong interests in manufacturing and entrepreneurship. Due to those interests, I decided to design a tailored degree program under the General Engineering department at San Jose State University. I also decided to work for and obtain a Certificate of Entrepreneurship from the College of Business.

I joined Morgan Crucible on an internship in November 2010 where I successfully conducted test runs to reduce vibratory mill cycle times from 20 hours to 10 hours or less. I then re-joined Morgan as a Process Engineer in April 2011, where I managed one production line for four months with the team achieving 98% on time delivery while reducing the machining time by 10 hours. Currently, I am focusing on cost reduction projects to increase the profitability and help lower the price of our products whilst maintaining the same quality standards. In addition, I work with a team of engineers to reduce scrap, cycle time and improve lead times so we can meet our customers’ demands more quickly.

 My typical work day involves speaking with production supervisors, production staff and other engineers. I typically juggle three projects at any one time with each project usually lasting a minimum of three months although some are longer due to the complexity of the project or a broader scope. Morgan is a great place to learn and have hands on experiences. The projects encourage me to put my technical background to the test, but I am also challenged to develop my leadership skills. I was given a real role on day one which included people management responsibility. I have continued to learn and grow both personally and professionally and I am excited about the opportunities Morgan Crucible offers for people like me with the energy and drive to grasp them.
