Emma Gill - Process Development Engineer

I have been with Morgan Crucible since May 2006. During my first three years, I worked as a Materials Engineer at the site in Stourport in the UK where I carried out a knowledge transfer partnership project. The project was to undertake joint research between Morgan Crucible and the University of Sheffield to develop a processing route for metal injection moulded titanium. I was given a lot of responsibility, but it was incredibly exciting being able to put my academic background into practice and to be trusted to contribute from day one.

This project was very successful, the Grade of Titanium developed was a bio medical implantable grade of injection Molded Titanium and I used the findings to complete my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. Before working for Morgan Crucible I completed a 4 year MEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield (UK). I particularly enjoyed learning about ceramic and metal materials. It has been great to be able to use knowledge of both material types in my work since leaving university.

At the start of 2010 I transferred to the New Bedford site in Massachusetts, USA. Here I am a Process Development Engineer working on a variety of development projects. The site specialises in manufacturing ceramic-to-metal seals for biomedical, aerospace and defence applications. My work involves developing braze cycles for new customer products and developing sputter systems for different ceramic materials. It has been a great experience to work at different sites across the world and be involved in the wide range of processes they use. In joining Morgan Crucible, you don’t have to work in other countries, but the company offers fantastic opportunities to those wishing to travel and work internationally.

The international conferences bring together Morgan Crucible graduates from our different businesses. They focus on exploring our Company’s strategy. They provide the opportunity for networking with senior leaders. They encourage personal and career development.
